Ranilo Buenaventura (Philippines), 47, was serving with the United Nations Office of the Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq (UNOHCI). He began his career in 1989 with the United Nations Disaster Relief Organization, and subsequently joined the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which seconded him to the United Nations oil-for-food programme, the sole source of rations for 60 per cent of Iraq's 27 million people.
